Plant of the Week - Brugmansia (Angel's Trumpet)
It's December 6th, we have a rare snowfall on the peaks around the Bay Area, and my friend Eve sent me this picture of her brugmansia taken this morning. Stunning! Mine has been blooming strong for the last 8 weeks, and shows no sign of stopping (we'll see what the 30 degree temperature tonight will do). A quick grower great for tropical effect, brugmansia is a nice addition to the Northern california garden. Plant in a protected site and give ample water and food. I think it looks best with morning sun and afternoon protection, but have seen them growing in full sun. Cold weather can knock them back to the ground, but they will usually come back in spring if established. Flowers come in a variety of colors including pink, yellow and white.
