Plant of the Week - Epiphyllum sp. (Flowering Orchid Cactus)
With 19 different species of epiphyllums, there is a flower to suit every liking. A member of the cactus family, they can survive long periods without water, making them a great accent for the northern california garden, Naturally epiphitic, they look great planted in wire & moss baskets hanging in larger trees, giving a tropical effect. Protection from a large tree will help with our occasional freezes, and provide a perfect perch when in full bloom. Some species are extremely fragrant at night, and colors range from white, yellows and oranges to hot pink (mine pictured above - feel free to me ask for a cutting!).
